Juneteenth in the Park Cultural Festival
On Saturday, June 14th and Sunday, June 15th, 2008, we will honor a part
of our great African American heritage - Juneteenth!
The African American Community Service Agency has been working with the community to hold it's annual Juneteenth Festival for over 25 years. The proceeds from the festival are used to help fund our programs and services for youth, seniors and the general public.
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.
From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond. We are asking you to join us in this momentous occasion. Juneteenth will be held at the Plaza de Cesar Chavez located in beautiful downtown San Jose located on South Market Street.
